Facebook is more real than you think!

here's a research on the topic that was discussed briefly in class the other day, that our online profiles do not give an accurate representation of ourselves. i suppose its still up to the individual how realistic they want to be online, which dictates what side they choose on this argument...

Another Interesting social network

Hi every one,

http://wereallfans.com/

Here's a website I found. I think it's particularly interesting because it uses the incredibly strong forces of fandome to bring people together. If your work has any thing to do with tribes and clans then this may be of interest to you.

Digital Nation: Life on the Digital Frontier

I don't mean to put a dampner on any of the work we're all doing but this is some interesting fod for thought on how the internet is changing our lives.

Could be especially useful for team 5 as I mentioned today. See part 4 - "Teaching with Technology"

The whole thing is quite American in editorial style but interesting none-the-less

"Escape" scenario from IDEO Climate Change team

Escape from IDEO on Vimeo.

Just saw this and had to share it. Could be really inspiring for scenario making.

The short film envisions what life would be like for children growing up in a world where electricity is a lot more expensive than it is now.

Pushing Random People Together...

Here's a bizarre website..

http://chatroulette.com/

as the name suggests, you are randomly given another user with whom to "chat", meaning full blown video call type interaction. Now the reason I've written "chat" in adverted commas is because I just gave this what I feel was a fair chance. To my dismay, Not one (out of about 12 attempts) person actually interacted with me. A few videos of some teen age looking guys appeared for a split second to only disappear where the interface notifys me that the other user has disconnected. Any way I won't tell you ALL the details about it, I think just for scientific research you should try it yoursleves; be brave and use the web cam (I did).

Oh and please leave a comment here, and share your findings; I'm intrigued to know if it was personal.

Group 2, I think this will be particularly interesting for you :)

Search On

Wow Google take on social networking eh?

Well this is not quite as up-to-date as Theo's post but inspiring all the same. Its Google's advert during the SuperBowl 2010 i.e. the most expensive advertisment slot there is.

Heart warming and mind-blowing...that is Google. Or at least thats what they want you to think.

Some interesting comment here too.

There's a New Kid on the Block!

Hi guys,

Big news!! Google has just released it's own social netwrok called BUZZ:

http://www.google.com/buzz

It's surely going to have some impact, but will it be able to rival Facebook?
I first saw this BBC article which gives a bit of background:

shift happens videos

here is an interesting compilation on social media. maybe its a good idea to think about the responsibility we have when creating social media tools and sites. how will they be used and by whom? for positive or negative?
it was interesting to watch the earlier versions of this video first, the first one from 2006 and seeing how many things have changed since then. the first video doesn't even mention facebook... now it exceeds myspace.
their wiki site is also interesting shifthappens.wikispaces.com

Korea's Anti-Anonymity Laws

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2008/oct/09/news.internet

I saw a really interesting talk by a British guy studying in Korea about Korea's new law that forces users to enter their National ID number if they want to post something on a website that has over 10,000 hits per day.

Their reasoning given is supposedly to curb the "bad-manners" that anonymity creates.

Sites affected include Cyworld, korea's main social network, and Youtube, which has decided to stop Korean users uploading to avoid any complications.
